- Marion Motley was one of
- the first black athletes to
- play modern professional
- football. Few people ever
- played the game better. At
- 6' 2" tall and 235 pounds, Marion was a big
- man who preferred to run over tacklers rather
- than around them.

- As a member of the Cleveland Browns,
- Marion was the leading rusher in the
- All-America Football Conference, a league
- that existed from 1946 to 1949. The Browns
- (as well as the San Francisco 49ers and the
- Baltimore, now Indianapolis, Colts) joined
- the NFL in 1950. That year, Marion led the
- NFL in rushing.
